  Community Update Number 5 - Mid-March 2008

The Taskforce met again on Thursday 13 March. Here are a few points about that meeting and some other information about the work of the Taskforce:

  • Our independent consultant, Janine Combes, presented a very detailed report of what she had found out from the Focus Group sessions and from the Public Workshop.

  • Janine made particular mention of the enthusiastic and thoughtful way that everyone involved had participated in these discussions.

  • The Taskforce would like to sincerely thank all those people who gave up time to take part in these sessions.

  • The last piece of community feedback will come from a class of current Bridgewater High School students who have been working on a project to survey opinions of students across the area. We hope to hear from them at our next meeting.

  • On Thursday we also heard a report from the Educational Reference Group about possible future models for schooling in our area. This led into discussion about what the Taskforce will be recommending to the Minister and that means we are very much at the business end of the life of the Taskforce.

  • We have two more Taskforce meetings scheduled and we would hope that after these we will be in a position to make a well thought out recommendation which will lead the education of this community into the foreseeable future.

  • That report is due at the end of this month but after that the timeline is a bit unclear. Certainly we will keep you posted through these Updates of all future developments.

  • As always, should you wish to ask questions about any of this or make a comment, please do so by e-mail to david.forshaw@education.tas.gov.au
